If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a picture of your pet is worth, well, a thousand barks (not including tail wags).
If you’ve never had your pet’s photo taken by a professional, read on!
After 5 years of adoring my pets, I realized that all the photos of them that I took were, well, flat and pretty boring. As I became more familiar with pet photographers, I realized that there is a serious art to taking great shots. And I didn’t possess it.
I made the decision to go “off leash” by letting a pro capture my canine kids in action. The results? Amazing! In just a few hours, not only did we have a memorable play date at the park (in more ways than one), but during the process we were able to create, capture and collect great shots of our doggies dear to last a lifetime… and beyond.
Here are some ingredients for success that might help you in the process of capturing their great moment in time:
Artist ~ Choosing your photographer is critical. Ask for samples of their work before making a final decision and go with the photographer who gives you great vibes. Make sure and ask about your photo usage rights and pricing upfront so there are no surprises downstream.
Setting ~ Where you choose to have your pet’s pic captured is key. Like an great palette, why not choose a special place for you or your pet, like the park or pool?
Pose ~ Capturing a shot on their level is a great way to get an up close, dramatic shot. Also consider your pet’s personality and put them in a similar element (running, swimming, fetching, etc.).
Lighting ~ Lighting is a great contributor to a great photo. While an indoor studio shot can have controlled lighting effects, why not consider the out of doors, putting your dog on their natural turf?
Patience ~ For every over the top great shot, there may be hundreds of blurry, crooked, or misplaced focus shots. Rome wasn’t built in a day. And options are good! Relax and celebrate the art of a great shot… and the journey finding it.
Once you have your perfect pet pic, you can extend it into many great forms. Note cards, wall art, photo books, calendars, screen savers and wallpapers. The possibilities are endless!
Celebrate your love of dog through the joy and art of photography.
